BOOK REVIEW – DEPRESSIVE ILLNESS: THE CURSE OF THE STRONG

Graeme CowanUncategorized

Depression is suffered by strong people, not weak people.

Dr Tim Cantopher’s acclaimed book ‘Depressive Illness: The Curse Of The Strong’ puts a different spin on depression: those who are strong, reliable and responsible and push themselves hard, yet are also sensitive to criticism, are actually the ones who are susceptible.

The book breaks down and clearly explains the illness and its physical nature. The clear, simple and easy to understand writing is ideal for those suffering from depression and short concentration spans.

Drawing on his extensive experience in the field of professional mental health, Dr Cantopher takes readers through the different treatment options, as well as the different types of anti-depressants (which he is in favour of, although others may have reservations about their use).

A book that is well worth reading. You will perceive depression differently and perhaps most importantly, encouraged to give yourself a break and be kinder to yourself!
