Includes the results of a 3000 person survey by Professor Gordon Parker from The Black Dog Institute, Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney, Australia.

This site is the product of overcoming a five year depression, described by my psychiatrist as “the worst he had ever treated”.

My aim is to create a community where those who have recovered can help those still suffering.

If depression is affecting you or a loved one, you are not alone. In a recent survey by Ultrafeedback of over 3000 Australian adults, 26% said they had spoken to their GP about depression in the last year.

I truly understand the despair depression can inflict on you. Depression turned my life upside down and plunged me and my family into a living hell for five years.

I had a reasonably successful business career before my breakdown, including working as a Joint Managing Director of a management consulting firm. I am divorced and have two children, but am delighted to remarrying again soon.

I held my former business career together even during five major episodes of depression; the first episode occurring when I was 21. The five year episode was by far the worst.

During that time I went through an extraordinarily difficult period which resulted in four hospitalisations and a suicide attempt. After 23 different medications; 19 sessions of ECT (shock treatment); Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; and participation in many other programs related to the treatment of clinical depression, in October 2005 I finally started to climb out of the pit of despair.

You can read the full details of my story and how I overcame depression in an eBook I want to give to you for FREE. It is important to me and for helping you recover to realize that you are not alone, that depression can be overcome and life will get better for you.

I now know that depression can lead to blessings.

This is a website of hope and dedicated to helping you overcome depression.

“Back from the Brink” (BFTB) contains interviews of both prominent and everyday Australians on how they overcame depression. In preparation, I interviewed over 250 people with depression to find out what they would like to ask the interviewees and what they found most effective in treating their depression.

The research also revealed the six areas that contributed most to recovery as: Exercise and Nutrition; Emotional Support; Counselling Therapies; Prescription Medicines; Relaxation/Meditation; and Fulfilling Work.

This website is for you, the person suffering from depression, and your loved ones. We invite you to participate in the surveys we run to make sure we are meeting your needs.

One thing I have learnt is that we only start getting better when we begin taking responsibility for our recovery by helping ourselves and others. I would invite you to take the first step right now by registering for the free ebook “Overcoming Depression”.
